Scottsdale Senior Living Facility Clears Hurdle

A three-story independent senior living facility at 13870 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard took its first steps toward becoming a reality Oct. 11 when the Scottsdale Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the city council approve the zoning change that would allow the facility to go up.

The 172-unit facility would be six separate buildings, if ultimately approved. It would consist of the main three-story building as well as five duplexes separating the taller building from existing two-story homes in the area.

“Aesthetically, it looks good and it’s not a gas station,” Commissioner George Ertel said. “It won’t clash with the community.”

Ertel went on to echo the only person who spoke during the public comment section of the hearing in saying the proposed facility had three things going for it.

First it would serve to house seniors if a spouse had to go into the existing assisted living facility already on the 12.5 acre site.

Second, more housing would be good for commercial businesses in the area.

Third, it would provide more homes in a part of town that desperately needs more residential development.
