The Scottsdale City Council finalized the fiscal year 2023-24 property tax rate with a 6-1 vote during its June 27 meeting.

The primary tax rate, which pays for city operations, is set at $0.515 per $100 of assessed value for next year. That is an increase of $0.018 per $100 of assessed evaluation over this year.

The secondary tax rate, which pays for capital improvement projects, is set at $0.4664 per $100 of assessed evaluation next year. That is an increase of $0.0563 per $100 of assessed evaluation over this year.

That comes to a combined property tax rate of $0.9814, which is an increase of $0.0743 per $100 of assessed evaluation over this year.

That is only the city’s portion of the property taxes homeowners pay. Only about 15% of homeowners’ property taxes go to the city. The rest goes to schools, education and special districts. That is why a typical property tax bill in Scottsdale is somewhere around $2,500.

City Treasurer Sonia Andrews pointed out that Scottsdale’s property tax is the second lowest of all the cities in the Valley.
