On March 16, Scottsdale’s Development Review Board approved 5-0 the aesthetics of the Magnolia Waterside at Old Town mixed use development. Board member Dave Craig recused himself from the vote and board member Ali Fakih was not present.

The plan, which was already approved by the planning commission and city council, calls for 54 apartments and 900 square feet of commercial space in a four-story building on a one-acre site on the northeast corner the intersection of East Indian School Road and North 68th Street — next to the canal.

With the exception of six surface spaces, parking will be on the first floor of the building.

The proposed development includes sustainability elements such as deep roof overhangs over balconies and windows to mitigate solar heat gain.

The plan calls for a connector path between fifth Avenue and the canal and an enhanced public plaza near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East Indian School Road.
