Homebuilders in Maricopa County saw an uptick in sales during May as residents began to venture out with an itch in their pocketbooks.
Homebuilders saw a 9% increase during May over April and increased by less than 1% year-over-year from May 2019, said Jim Daniel, president of RL Brown Housing Reports.
The daily average of new homes closed in Maricopa County was 77.8 during May 2020, up from 71.86 during May 2019, Daniel said, adding there were 22 business days in 2019 and 20 business days in 2020.
Looking at new home closings from January through May in Maricopa County, there was an 11% increase over the same period in 2019, he said.
As a guest on CNBC Worldwide Exchange on June 2, Sheryl Palmer, chairwoman and CEO of Taylor Morrison Home Corp. (NYSE: TMHC), said the Scottsdale-based homebuilder finished May with a 17% increase in net sales orders year over year.
