While the Valley’s tourism industry has been hampered severely by the COVID-19 pandemic, construction is still ongoing on one of the Valley’s most anticipated hospitality projects, the new Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley resort.

The pandemic has forced the project’s developer, Scottsdale-based Five Star Development, to implement social distancing guidelines among its construction crews, but work is still being done and hundreds of construction workers have been able to keep working and earning a paycheck.

“This is a bump in the road, not a roadblock,” Richard Frazee, the head of construction at Five Star Development, told the Business Journal.

Currently there are about 450 construction workers on the project, Frazee said. Depending on which part of the project they are in, he said there could be up to 600 crew members at one time.

While that is a lot of people, the 215-room Ritz-Carlton resort is being constructed across 20 acres, so Frazee said there is plenty of room and plenty of work across the entire property so workers can still maintain social distance.
