Ascension Lutheran Church demolition plans and spire removal are set.

A citizen review session was held Aug. 14 focusing on information about the demo, construction, salvage of site materials, drainage and timing. Planning Manager Paul Michaud presented an update to the Paradise Valley Planning Commission Aug. 20. The commission will take action Sept. 3.

The demolition permit has now been issued by the town and notices sent to residents, according to Michaud. Demolition will start mid-September and finish in about 30 days, but the spire will be removed at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28.

The cross will come off the spire before being moved to Town Hall the next day.

Salvaging of the stained glass underneath the spire is still being discussed by the new owner, according to Michaud.

A resident suggested at the citizen review session that a placard or marker is placed on or near the site, which may be addressed through the Historical Advisory Committee, Michaud shared.

For the site’s redevelopment to four single-family R-43 lots, construction will be done by Arcadia Builders. Construction of each home will be staggered by a few months for about two years.

Fencing will remain up until all homes are completed, which is required for safety. Commissioner William Nassikas said he’s a proponent of construction fences and compliments the brand new fence that’s there.

The homes will have different styles but consistent design vernacular and are intended to be single-story up to approximately 10,000 square feet in size.
