Former Tonalea Elementary School will become a “recreational, athletic and community project,” according to the SUSD.
The fate of the site that was previously home to the former Tonalea Elementary School in Scottsdale is underway.
The lot is being transformed into “a multi-purpose recreational, athletic and community project,” according to Scottsdale Unified School District.
The site proposal shows eight sand volleyball courts will be built, plus a basketball court and soccer field.
The Tonalea Elementary School in south Scottsdale shut down at the end of 2014 because of low enrollment and its age. Community meetings started back up in 2020 to determine what should be made of the former school site.
