Mixed-use building earmarked for 12 apartments: nine 1BR and three 2BR units.

A four-story, mixed-use building will go up in Old Town near the intersection of Marshall Way and Fifth Avenue.

The Scottsdale City Council voted 4-3 during its Feb. 18 meeting to accept the development, known as Marshall Living, as was approved by the city’s Development Review Board.

The item had been on the consent agenda for the Jan. 14 council meeting but council member Kathy Littlefield had requested it be pulled and put on the regular agenda at a future date.

She did not approve of the project based on height, density and parking.

“I was told by staff that land use … and density are not DRB considerations and we can’t consider that tonight, but some has to be a little bit considered because they interact with the construction process and with you as you build this project,” Littlefield said to Lauren Proper Potter, an attorney representing the project.

However, staff pointed out at the Feb. 18 meeting that the building meets all city requirements.
