Fair Housing is About More Than Keeping Your REALTOR® License

By February 3, 2022November 14th, 2022No Comments

Why should Fair Housing matter to you?

There are many reasons, here are just three:

  1. It’s the law.
  2. In 1968, the Fair Housing Act was signed into law and protects homebuyers and renters from discrimination in buying or renting a home a obtaining a mortgage. It also enables anyone whose housing rights were violated to file a complaint.

  3. It’s in the Code of Ethics.
  4. Article 10 states that REALTORS® shall not deny equal professional services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

  5. It’s the right thing to do.
  6. Why risk your license and reputation with anything less than professional service? You might not intentionally do so, but it’s easy is to forget rules that put you at risk.

You can better manage your risk by attending our Fair Housing Symposium on Feb. 25.

Arizona REALTORS® Scott Drucker moderates Tom Simplot, Arizona Dept. of Housing; Nora Guerra, Freddie Mac; Nathanael Hill, HUD Fair Housing Equal Opportunity Center and Tessa Hultz, Long Island Board of REALTORS® sponsored by 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty.

Why Long Island?

Long Island real estate agents were part of a Newsday investigation uncovering widespread evidence of unequal treatment. CEO Tessa Hultz shares the invaluable lessons learned by her association and how they are trying to repair the damage.

In-person attendees earn three Fair Housing continuing education hours from the Southwest Fair Housing Center and receive a drink ticket to the happy hour that follows and is sponsored by RE/MAX Ascend Realty and Clear Title Agency of Arizona.

If you’re among the first 50 paid registrants who attend in person, you will receive a Fair Housing pin and a raffle ticket for your chance to win a local listing photoshoot up to 2,500 s.f. from ChapterNEXT Photography.
