Update on Zoning Code Refresh in Paradise Valley

By December 30, 2025No Comments

By Philip Haldiman | Town of Paradise Valley Independent (abridged)

Paradise Valley’s zoning code is going through a comprehensive update to ensure it is compliant with state law and to get rid of any inconsistencies, conflicts or duplications.

Michael Baker International, the consultant who has been commissioned to update the code, has been working with the town for about a year on the project. The group recently met with town council Dec. 11 in a study session to give an update on their work.

So far, Robbie Aaron, senior planner with Michael Baker International, said the zoning ordinance has been reformatted and reorganized to make it more user friendly.

“We are really in the thick of getting everything into the new format and once we have that done we’ll start to dive into the surgical changes,” he said.

Those “surgical changes” include the consulting team working on updates to the existing zoning code to make sure it aligns with recent legislation and making refinements to permitted uses.

Aaron said one goal is to bring a better code that’s easier to understand, as well as address potential development trends that will impact the town.

Officials say the zoning code update is expected to be completed by June 2026 and then go before planning commission and town council.

But before that, the public will have an opportunity to review the new proposed ordinance and give input. The consensus with the council when it comes to public input is the more the better.
