On a 5-2 vote, Sept. 2, the Fountain Hills Town Council made new revisions to the sign regulations found in the town’s Zoning Ordinance.
Development Services Director John Wesley presented proposals that include allowance for use of an additional A-frame sign per business with an increase in size to eight-square-feet. When more than one sign is used the maximum aggregate total is 11- square-feet, with a maximum of two per business. Restrictions on limiting the placement of signs to business hours were removed.
Mayor Gerry Friedel said most business owners are not going to abuse the sign allowance. “They just want the opportunity to be a success,” he said.
There were no changes to the rules for banner signs. Those allow for up to 30 days of display at one time with a maximum of 150 days per year.
The amendment would allow individuals to have up to four political signs on private property consistent with the timing outlined in state statute for campaign signs during election cycles.
