Scottsdale Homebuilder Drops Its Name During Rebranding

The Scottsdale-based homebuilder formerly known as Maracay is now called Tri Pointe Homes.

It’s part of a national rebranding of Tri Pointe Group Inc., which is consolidating its six regional homebuilding brands into one unified name. The publicly traded homebuilder also is changing its corporate name to Tri Pointe Homes Inc.

James Attwood — who took over as president of Tri Pointe Homes in Arizona in October 2020 — grew up under the Maracay name.

He started as an intern at Maracay in 2005 while pursuing a degree in construction management at Northern Arizona University, getting his first job a year later as an assistant superintendent.

He moved up the company ladder, taking leadership positions within Tri Pointe’s other markets, including Tucson and San Diego.

Letting go of the Maracay name feels like a natural progression, Attwood said.

“We’ve been a Tri Pointe Homes company for over six years, since 2014,” he said. “All along, we’ve been informing customers we’re a part of this strong, national Tri Pointe Homes brand of companies.”

Changing the name comes at a time when so many homebuyers and shoppers are coming to Phoenix from other parts of the country, who already know the Tri Pointe name, he said.
