Our members have been reporting a new trend in e-mails containing malware. Using real estate-specific terms, such as “see offer” or “purchase contract”, these e-mails come from real estate agents and prompt the recipient to click a link. Upon clicking the link, malware is installed on your computer. This malware will perpetuate itself by using your email account to send bogus messages to people in your address book.
Even if you receive an email from a REALTOR®, do not click any links or open any attachments if you are not expecting them. Call the agent first to verify that it is a legitimate email.
Reported emails have contained wording about an offer or promise of a referral.
